THERE were contrasting fortunes for Pool and Otley Town over the weekend.

Both sides were in action for the second round of the West Yorkshire League Cup and while the former made it through in dramatic circumstances, the latter bowed out of the competition.

Pool hosted Leeds Modernians, and in a thrilling contest, they managed a 3-3 draw, with Scott Higgins their hero with a hat-trick.

And the home side held their nerve in the shootout too, winning that 4-3 to progress.

Otley were at Altofts, and despite Joshua Sheffield’s goal, they fell to a 2-1 away defeat.

They will look to bounce back in the West Riding County Challenge Cup second round this weekend at home to Route One Reserves.

Pool are in action in the same competition, and they face a trip to Calverley United.
