A VEHICLE that was used to dump waste on the streets of Queensbury on multiple occasions has been seized.

Over the past two months, officers from Bradford Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team had received multiple reports that the red Ford Transit tipper van had been fly-tipping in the village, and eventually tracked the vehicle down to the Low Moor area after a joint operation with West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Steerside Team.

The Council has now asked for the vehicle’s owner to come forward to claim the van.

Over the last two months the Council’s Environmental Enforcement Officers have received numerous complaints of the vehicle fly-tipping waste in the Queensbury area on multiple occasions.

Footage of building, renovation and construction waste being tipped from the vehicle, on to a layby of a country lane, was caught on a motorist’s dash cam and the details were passed to the council. Initial investigations to identify the location of the vehicle were held up as the vehicle was believed to be driven on false number plates.

Through intelligence gathering at a number of addresses, the vehicle was eventually located seized on Wednesday. Councillor Sarah Ferriby Bradford Council’s Executvie Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “This once again shows that collaborative working by both our Environmental and Highways Enforcement Teams as well as with West Yorkshire Police, has enabled prompt and decisive action to be taken to take this vehicle off the road and to disrupt the illegal waste activities of those involved.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we’re asking the registered keeper of the vehicle to make themselves known, to assist in our enquiries.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in sharing their dash cam footage with us in this case.”

If the vehicle is found not to be roadworthy or have any resale value it will be crushed.

People who see fly-tipping taking place have been urged to note down as many details as possible, including times and dates and vehicle registration numbers and location and inform the council. If anyone has dash cam or CCTV footage of flytipping taking place they can share it with the council to assist in the pursuit and prosecution of illegal waste carriers and fly-tippers that blight the Bradford District.
