COUNCIL-owned land in Birkenshaw, which was being auctioned off for £850,000, has failed to sell.

The parcel of land at Croft Street in the village is just over two acres in size and backs onto Birkenshaw Liberal Club.

Planning permission for 34 homes on the site was previously granted, but that has now expired.

The land went up for auction last week with a guide price of £850,000, but after remaining unsold, is now available for the higher price of £935,000.

The land, which is to the south of Birkenshaw Liberal Club, has a housing allocation of 28 units in the Local Plan.
