A MAN is to make his first court appearance following the death of a much-loved Bradford school headteacher.
Jeremy Richardson, 61, who was headteacher at Beckfoot Thornton, was riding a bicycle when he was involved in a collision on the morning of June 22, 2022.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries but sadly died.
Fiaz Hussain, of Barkerend Road, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in relation to the incident.
It is alleged Hussain caused the death of Mr Richardson by driving a Mercedes Vito van dangerously on Barkerend Road.
The 59-year-old will appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 20.
At the time, scores of tributes were left in a book of condolence set up by the Telegraph & Argus.
One message said: “Students, staff, and parents all look to a headteacher to lead, a leader to be strong and confident, Jeremy Richardson did this with ease, but also with compassion and care which is the difference between being a good leader, and a fantastic leader.
“He had time for everyone alike and what made him unique and special was how he would treat each individual the same regardless of who that was.”
Kelly Tatlock wrote: “Jeremy, you were a kind and selfless person, and a wonderful leader with absolute integrity."
She added: "I will never forget you giving me your time, feedback and support.”
Deanna Drake spoke of how she knew Mr Richardson as a young mathematics teacher at Fartown High School, Huddersfield.
She described his teaching methods as “ahead of the times” and that he was known for his “thorough and analytical approach as well as for his courtesy and charm”.
Simon Atkin said: “A wonderful gentleman. I only knew him for a short time but it was clear from our first contact that he was caring, well-liked and a real leader.”
Beckfoot Thornton opened a memorial garden in memory of Mr Richardson as a poignant way to make the first anniversary of his death.
Headteacher Sally Trusselle said: “It has been wonderful to commemorate Jeremy and the hugely significant impact he had on the school and on countless pupils."
Mr Richardson was a former Ofsted inspector and Department for Education advisor.
He became the headteacher at Beckfoot Thornton School initially on an interim basis in April 2017. He was then appointed executive headteacher two years later.
