A LONG derelict post office and laundrette in Buttershaw will be demolished after concerns were raised about their safety.

Bradford Council submitted the demolition request for 34 and 36 Reevy Road West – properties at the end of a parade of shops, saying the buildings were unsalvageable.

The application said: “It is not viable to repair or re-use the buildings and potential safety concerns due to the condition.

“No. 34 will be finished with top soil and seed and No. 36 with bitumen macadam footway surfacing. The exposed brickwork walls area to be made good with spa dashed cement render or similar.”

When the Telegraph & Argus visited the site on Friday the buildings were covered in graffiti, including a crudely painted image of a cannabis leaf, with sections of the roof having apparently collapsed.

Approving the demolition last week, planning officers said: “Although the buildings are visible from the adjacent road and within the wider area they are not in a state to be re-used or repaired.

“The proposal will remove the unsightly features and aid the reduction of anti-social activity on this site.”
