REMEMBER when Darley Street looked like this?
This photo, from the T&A archive, was taken in 1970. It is taken from Bradford's Bank Street, leading up to Darley Street. It was a bustling area for shoppers, with a range of high street chains along the street.
Now Darley Street is being transformed with a new city centre market. In the summer the T&A reported that the new market is taking shape, with the roof and internal fittings installed. Escalators in the three-storey building have also been installed.
Due to open next year, the market is being built on the former Marks & Spencer site and will replace Oastler and Kirkgate Market. A public square in front of the building, linking Darley Street with Piccadilly, will feature a huge digital screen.
One floor of the market will sell non-food goods, another will have fresh food and the top floor will be a food court, with hot food stalls and bars.
