A MAN who tragically died in a crash was “very much loved locally," a councillor has said.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 78-year-old man died after a collision involving two cars in Keighley on Wednesday
The crash happened at around 4.30pm on Hainworth Wood Road North, in Keighley, near its junction with Woodhouse Road, and involved a red Ford Fiesta and a white Seat Arona.
The victim of the fatal crash was driving the Fiesta and died at the scene.
A ward councillor for the area where the tragic collision happened, and who has close connections to a community centre there, spoke about trying to help in the aftermath.
Councillor Lisa Robinson (Lab, Keighley East) said: “I was nearby when this incident took place and did what I could to help.
“It is tragic and really upsetting.
“The man who has died was very much loved locally.
“I send my sympathies to all those involved.
“I would like to commend the emergency service crews who quickly attended the crash. They were brilliant."
Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) scrambled to the scene on Wednesday, with YAS sending multiple vehicles.
The air ambulance was also called to the scene.
A passenger in the Fiesta was taken to hospital for a check-up while the driver of the Seat Arona stopped at the scene and helped police with their enquiries.
Councillor Caroline Firth (Lab, Keighley East) said: "This is such a sad incident. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
“The police, ambulance and everyone else involved in the aftermath should be praised for their action at the scene.”
Hainworth Wood Road North was closed in both directions while police investigation work was carried out, between Park Lane and Woodhouse Road, from around 5.30pm on Wednesday.
It remained shut throughout the evening and into the night, before reopening.

Markings from the police investigation work could still be seen on the road on Thursday.
West Yorkshire Police launched an appeal for witnesses as part of its investigation into the crash.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw the vehicles prior to the collision, or who may have dash cam footage of the crash.
Anyone who can help should contact police on 101, or using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.
