A WOMAN who tragically died after a crash has been described as a "kind and loving soul whose door was always open to anyone" in an emotional tribute from her family.

Angela Carney, 65, from Cleckheaton passed away in hospital following the collision in the town.

It happened at around 5pm on September 26 on the A643 Westgate, at the junction of Westcliffe Road, and involved a black Nissan Navara, which was towing a trailer with a white 4x4 type vehicle on the back.

The Navara was in collision with Angela, who was on a mobility scooter.

“Angela was a kind and loving soul whose door was always open to anyone; she will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank family and friends for all the support, the passers-by who stopped to help her, and the emergency services.”

A section of Westgate Road was closed off as emergency services dealt with the situation.

At the time, Batley and Spen MP Kim Leadbeater, said: “I was horrified to hear of the tragic death of a woman on a mobility scooter in Cleckheaton.

"My thoughts are with her family and friends after this terrible event.

"Making our roads and pavements safe for all users is something I have campaigned hard on and I would urge anybody who witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to the police."

There was a large police presence at the scene and the air ambulance landed in West End Park.

A resident who wished to remain anonymous said: “It's tragic for both the driver and the woman and their families.

"It's really sad. Most people who live around here were out looking to see what had happened.

“I send my condolences to both the families involved and it’s just as traumatic for the driver.”

Councillor John Lawson (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton) said: “It’s tragic that somebody lost their life in this way. It’s sad.

“I would urge anybody who witnesses anything to help police with their investigation.”
