CREWS were at the scene of a building blaze for more than 12 hours yesterday, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service has now revealed.

The blaze covered an entire derelict single-story building, off Hare Park Lane in Liversedge, on Thursday afternoon.

Official details of the fire have only just emerged. The T&A would once have reported news of this incident on the day it happened, but major changes to the way West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service distributes information about incidents to the media are currently being introduced.

The fire service's Corporate Communications department said a member of the public reported the Liversedge incident at around 1pm.

Five crews initially attended within ten minutes to extinguish the flames.

Firefighters remained at the scene until Friday morning.

A spokesperson from the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "We received a call from a member of the public at 1.08 pm yesterday regarding a derelict single-story building being 100% (20x20m) on fire in Liversedge.

"We sent five crews from Dewsbury, Odsal, Cleckheaton and Mirfield, which arrived on the scene in under 10 minutes.

"We also deployed two large jet extinguishers as well as aerial support to put out the fire.

"We were in attendance until this morning."

  • So far this week, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service has released details of two incidents on its website - a building fire in Hunslet, Leeds, on September 21 and a highrise flat fire in Halifax on September 17. There have been no reports of any fires or major fire service-led incidents anywhere in the Bradford district, although firefighters were called to help out at an incident in Morley Street, Bradford, on Thursday.
