NATIONAL athletes will be coming to Bradford this weekend for a cycling competition.

Around 40 individuals, with intellectual disabilities, are gathering at Wyke Sports Village on September 23 and 24 for one of the biggest national competitions in the Special Olympics Great Britain sporting calendar.

Organised by Summat Creative CIC, Special Olympics Yorkshire & Humber National Cycling Competition will see athletes from England, Scotland and Wales compete in 10 races, over two days, on the British Cycling circuit.

The event starts at 9.30am on Saturday and follows Team Special Olympics GB’s success at the Berlin 2023 Special Olympics World Games - including Bradford cyclist Ella Curtis.

Summat Creative CIC Director Tim Curtis said: “Last year’s Special Olympics Yorkshire & Humber National Cycling Competition was the inaugural cycling event at Wyke.

“We’re thrilled to build on its success by giving even more athletes from across the country the opportunity to compete this year.

“Special Olympics events have such a fantastic environment where so many friendships are made and there’s a great level of competition on show.

"We’ve got big ambitions to grow this event even more in the future and potentially welcome some of the international teams who we met at Berlin 2023.”
