A STEAM locomotive made a fine sight as it travelled over the legendary Settle & Carlisle Railway with a railtour.

Ex LMS Jubilee Class, 45699 Galatea, running under guise of scrapped classmate 45627 Sierra Leone, hauled the Dalesman tour past a number of iconic locations, also crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct.

As it reached Helwith Bridge, the loco was working hard as it was photographer by T&A Camera Club member Philip Roger Bailey.

The tour was promoted by West Coast Railways Company.

It also passed through the Bradford district, including Shipley and Keighley, but was diesel-hauled at that point, with the steam loco taking over at Hellifield, beyond Skipton.

The route continues to be popular with railtour operators, with Flying Scotsman also making numerous appearances on the S&C in its centenary year.
