THE manager of a Bradford district hotel has spoken about a huge Hollywood star's stay.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman, famous for playing Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, stayed at Steeton Hall Hotel with his family on Monday night.

The 54-year-old enjoyed the hotel's food and made the most of the district's scenery by taking a walk along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Angela Armitage, manager of Steeton Hall, was blown away by how humble Jackman was.

"He was an absolute pleasure and a genuine down-to-earth guy," she told the Telegraph & Argus.

"He booked it a couple of weeks ago but we did not tell anyone. He came with his family so he wanted privacy.

"They all enjoyed the night in a comfy bed and had a really good sleep.

"Hugh was visiting family and friends in Yorkshire. He loved the scenery.

"He had been in London filming but, due to the strikes, it has stopped for a bit.

"He really enjoyed the food and the 'beautiful' English breakfast.

"We even gave him some scones to take on his journey. He was too full after his evening meal to eat them, so our chef made him some fresh ones in the morning."

The A-lister and his children were fascinated by the hotel and its surrounding areas.

Mrs Armitage added: "He was so happy to take pictures with guests when he was on his own around the hotel.

"My daughter is pregnant and he was asking when she was due. He was interested in us and the village.

"He must be so proud of his kids, they were an absolute pleasure.

"They were really interested in the building and our family."

Jackman has been a star of screen and stage for the last 20 years - starring in films such as The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables.

He played the popular Marvel character Wolverine in various movies from 2000 to 2017.

The visit has proven to be a real boost for the hotel which changed ownership in 2014.

Mrs Armitage added: "It was a privilege to know he had booked us.

"You would have expected him to stay in a big city like Leeds, but no he wanted the countryside.

"He looked at a few in the area and said he picked us because we were the most authentic.

"We have had it nine years and he is our most famous guest."
