A 27-year-old man has been jailed for 20 weeks after attacking two PCSOs.
Michael Kalmar, of no fixed abode, appeared at Keighley and Bradford Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 30, charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, common assault, racially aggravated behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm and distress, and theft from a shop.
Describing the incident, a spokesperson for the Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said: "PCSO Fletcher and PCSO Hussain were on patrol in Bingley on Wednesday (August 29) when they were made aware of a shoplifter leaving a nearby store.
"They detained the male, who became violent and assaulted both PCSOs.
"PCSO Fletcher was struck several times and received a bite wound to his upper arm which required hospital treatment.
"Despite this, they were able to continue to restrain the male until Shipley NPT and patrol officers arrived and arrested the male."
On top of the 20-week sentence, Kalmar was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
