IT’S BACK to school this week as children dust off their uniforms after the long summer holiday.

Drama is an activity favoured by many pupils so to lighten the mood we thought we would take a look at a school production of Oliver.

THIS bunch of grubby-looking street urchins are appearing in the famous stage musical at Guiseley Church of England School in 1983.

Dressed in rags, with bare feet, they look the part of the pickpocketing gang from Charles Dickens’ novel, who trawled the streets of London looking for wealthy-looking citizens to target.

The Artful Dodger is fourth from right on the back row, but it’s hard to say who is taking on the title role.

Oliver is one of the most popular stage shows performed by schools as well as amateur dramatic groups, and is always a hit with audiences.
