A BRADFORD hospital which supports men struggling with their mental health has been nominated for a national award.

Cygnet Hospital Wyke is in the running at the National Service User Awards which celebrates service user-led initiatives in mental health, learning disability and autism services across the UK.

The hospital on Huddersfield Road is a finalist in the Community and Collaboration category, which recognises projects that have brought communities, teams, families, carers or services together.

The winner will be announced in September at an awards night.

The hospital, run by Cygnet Health Care, is nominated is for its Man Chat initiative which encourages the male patients on its acute ward, Phoenix Ward, to come together to be more expressive about their emotions and struggles.

The group has allowed service users to express their feelings in a safe environment, building their confidence to start difficult conversations with friends and family.

Sebastian Forrest, Cygnet Health Care occupational therapist, said: “We are over the moon that this collaborative group has reached the finals.

“Man Chat grew organically from listening to the feedback of service users during a people’s council meeting and collaborating together to adapt an already existing concept to meet their emotional needs. “
