“WITH great beer, pool tables, beer pong, live sport and social spaces, Hawkhill Tavern gives the people of Guiseley the best of today's offering.”

Opening in 2019 the former Hawkhill Social Club has been transformed into a go-to destination by Leeds-based Concept Taverns.

“There’s something for everyone at Hawkhill,” says a company spokesperson.

The pub sells 16 lines of draught, six rotating cask ale lines, a diverse collection of more than 80 gins, a range of cocktails and a variety of low and no-alcohol options.

“We often rotate the cask lines to be able to showcase a variety of products from local breweries alongside the popular Landlord from Timothy Taylor. A recent addition is Czech lager Budvar which guests are loving.”

Spread out over two floors, the venue - our Telegraph & Argus Pub of the Week - has been lovingly restored to showcase some of its striking original features such as beams and brick walls. It is characterful and spacious, complete with a first-floor games room and a south-facing terrace.

“We invested £650,000 into the refurbishment, taking the pub back to bare bones exposing the upstairs beams. This allowed us to make way for an upstairs games room, a brand-new pizza kitchen, and an incredible square bar, which is a real show-stopper,” says the spokesperson.

“Prior to being a social club, we believe it was two buildings, Hawkhill house and cottage. We have two entrances to the venue both of which have Hawkhill craved above the door in the stone.

“The refurbished venue now has a modern feel with touches of traditional elements with old, branded mirrors and finishings.”

To the front is a terrace partially covered by a pagoda.

As well as an impressive number of draught lines wine and enticing cocktail menu, visitors are treated to a casual offering of hand-stretched pizzas, small plates and nibbles.

Games include shuffleboard and beer pong, in which players in teams throw a ping pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer on the other end. If a ball lands in a cup, the contents are consumed by the other team and the cup is removed from the table.

The welcoming tavern, which is dog-friendly until 7pm every day, has many regulars. “When we took it over from being a social club, we gave many former club members their own discount so that they still felt the venue was welcoming to them,” says the spokesperson.

“We also offer a loyalty card to everyone where for every eight drinks they can get a free one up to £6.”

She adds: “We sponsor local cricket team Green Lane and Guiseley Juniors Under-11 Football Team. We love to support the local community and be part of it.”

General Manager Jack Spacey joined the Hawkhill Tavern in May 2021 as assistant manager, becoming general manager in August 2022.

“I've always loved working in hospitality, from getting my first part-time bar job aged 18. The thing I enjoy most about my job is that no day is the same, and I get to meet and spend time getting to know all types of people.

I love the social aspect of the job more than anything else, and as a team, we have loads of fun working together, especially when it’s really busy on a weekend.”

The pub holds a weekly speed quiz every Thursday starting at 7:30pm.

They also host regular live music nights. “People can book a supper club package alongside to make the most of the evening,” says the spokesperson.

“We’ve also got six HD screens. Whatever your sport, we’ve got it covered: from Sky to BT Sports, Amazon and DAZN.

“Football is by far the most popular sport shown, with record engagement for the 2022 World Cup and the final games of the Premier League season, closely followed by the big-name boxing fights, which regularly attract huge crowds.

“But being part of a city with such a strong sporting heritage means that the venue also attracts a steady number of Leeds United football and Leeds Rhinos rugby league fans. As well as being so close to Bradford we get a lot of Bradford City fans too.”
