THE man jailed for more than five years for a terrifying kidnap and robbery that unfolded in Bradford city centre at dead of night is a dangerous individual who thought he could flee from justice, the police said today.

Detective Superintendent Andy Farrell, of West Yorkshire Police, was speaking after Emmanual Sherriff was locked up at Bradford Crown Court this morning.

He said: “Sherriff is a dangerous individual who thought he could run away from his crimes and start a new life. “He went to extreme lengths to try and get away from what he’d done. I would like to thank Police Scotland for their help in the matter. We left no stone unturned to ensure Sheriff was located and brought to justice.

“We welcome the judge’s sentence handed down today. This was a complex and lengthy investigation; I would like to praise the officers for their hard work and dedication to this case.

“I hope today’s outcome provides the victim with some comfort after nearly 18 months, knowing that all four suspects have now been jailed for their involvement in the incident.” The court heard that Sherriff, 26 of Etna Street, Great Horton, Bradford, went on the run for months.

Today, he was sentenced to five years’ and one month in jail after the incident that began in Sackville Street on February 5, 2022, when a teenager was assaulted, threatened, and had money stolen from him. He was then kept hostage for a number of hours. Numerous wanted appeals were carried out for Sherriff, including a Crimestoppers reward.

He was arrested on February 3 this year in Scotland and brought to a police station in West Yorkshire. He went on to plead guilty to kidnap, robbery and offences of fraud.

Three other men were jailed in August last year for their involvement in the crime. They each received sentences of four years’ and three months in jail.
