A FOOTBALL camp has been set up in Bradford using cash seized from criminals.

The week-long camp was held at Idle Cricket Club.

Funding from the Mayor’s Safer Community Fund was given to the local neighbourhood policing team in the Bradford East area.

The football camp was set up to engage young people in sporting activities. A total of 150 children aged from 11 to 16 took part.

Bradford City players Harry Lewis and Heath Richardson attended the camp along with the HMP-NOT-4-ME charity.

Superintendent Gareth Crossley of Bradford District Police said: “Bradford District Police hopes that camps like this will give young people opportunities they didn’t have before.”

West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Alison Lowe OBE, said: “I’m delighted to see money taken from the hands of criminals being used in such a positive way.”

Ian Ormondroyd, CEO at Bradford City FC Community Foundation, said: "We have been delighted with the interest and turnout at the camp at Idle.

"The Mayor's Safer Communities Fund has been instrumental in actioning of a great week of football, teamwork and education for young people in our community."
