A 13-year-old boy who spent a year camping in his garden now plans to beat the Guinness World Record.

Billy Thompson, from Pudsey, set himself a target of raising £100 by camping outside for 100 days.

Once the 100 days were complete, Billy challenge continued and he has raised more than £1,000.

All the funds will go towards Emmaus, a charity which provides support to those working their way out of homelessness.

Billy started camping in his first tent - a teepee - on July 17, 2022. He is now on his second tent and sleeps on a padded duvet and a sleeping bag on the floor.

He uses an LED lamp to read books at night.

Billy hopes to exceed the target set by record holder Max Woosey, who raised £700,000 for North Devon Hospice after spending three years camping in his garden.

“No matter if it’s snowing, raining, I’m sick, I’ll still just go outside,” he said.

“When it was snowing really badly at the start of the year, my porch actually collapsed in on me because there was so much snow on top, so I had to be dug out.”
