A FAULT on a train is causing major disruption issues and could impact festival goers.

Northern Rail posted on Twitter at 6.18pm today and said there was an issue with a train between Leeds and Shipley that was blocking some lines.

The post said: "Due to a fault on a train between Leeds and Shipley some lines are blocked.

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed."

The train operating company outlined that multiple scheduled trains serving Bingley would be terminated at Shipley, which could cause issues for anyone heading to Bingley Festival.

The four-day festival kicked off today at Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club, with Mr Shiraz raising the curtain on the main stage, followed by Shambolics at 6pm, Boo Radleys at 7pm and the eagerly-anticipated headliners Happy Mondays at 8.30pm.

Northern's 5.26pm train from Leeds to Morecambe was the first service to be impacted, terminating at Shipley and no longer calling at Bingley, Keighley, Steeton & Silsden, Skipton, Gargrave, and beyond.

The railway line was cleared at 6.50pm but National Rail said trains between Leeds and Shipley/Ilkley may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes as the service recovers.

This disruption is expected to continue until 8.30pm.

Services on the following lines are being impacted, according to Northern's website:

  • Leeds - Skipton/Carlisle
  • Leeds - Morecambe/Lancaster
  • Leeds - Ilkley
  • Leeds - Bradford Forster Square
  • Bradford Forster Square - Ilkley
  • Bradford Forster Square - Skipton
