The owners of a Chinese cafe inspired by childhood memories of Hong Kong are preparing to open a second restaurant.

Husband and wife Zore Tong and Hannah Zhang opened Moon Tea Chinese Cafe at New Line Retail Park, Greengates, in August last year.

Adorned with lanterns and Chinese calligraphy, the restaurant and takeaway offers Chinese fusion-style dishes and authentic bubble tea.

After a year of success, the second branch of Moon Tea Chinese Cafe is now coming to Cleckheaton Road this winter.

Zore, who lives in Greengates, said: “Moon Tea Chinese Cafe was born from a combination of my passion for Chinese cuisine and my love for bubble tea.

“Growing up in a family-owned Chinese restaurant and working there since I was 12, I developed a deep appreciation for authentic Chinese flavours.

"My fond memories of enjoying traditional bubble tea during my childhood in Hong Kong made me realise that there was a gap in the market for truly authentic bubble tea in the UK.

“We wanted to present our customers with a wide range of choices that celebrate both traditional Chinese recipes and the beloved bubble tea from my childhood.”

The cafe’s vast bubble tea menu includes classical assam milk tea, jasmine green matcha, oreo milk tea, passion fruit green tea, and mango green tea.

The food menu ranges from starters like crispy aromatic duck and vegetable spring rolls to dim sum favourites and bao buns.

The restaurant’s main courses can be customised with different sauces, proteins, and complimentary sides.

Zore said: “My personal connection to bubble tea began during my childhood in Hong Kong, where it was a beloved treat for me and many others.

"However, when I moved to the UK at the age of 12, I was disappointed to find that the bubble tea available here didn't quite match the taste and quality I remembered.

“This inspired me to recreate the authentic bubble tea flavors I cherished in childhood and share them with our customers.

"Our vision was to create a warm and welcoming ambience that embraces the charm of a traditional Chinese tea house while offering a comfortable and contemporary space for our customers.

“Traditional Chinese art and calligraphy adorn the walls, reflecting the beauty of Chinese culture.

"Our intention with the decor was to transport our customers to a place where they can enjoy authentic Chinese dishes and bubble tea while immersing themselves in the rich traditions of Chinese heritage.”
