PEOPLE in Craven are being urged to help shape a new community 'library of things'.

Share Skipton, a new, volunteer-led community initiative is setting up the library and is asking people to take part it its survey so it can decide what it ought to stock.

The organisation says its mission is to promote sustainable living, reduce waste, and foster a sharing economy in Skipton and the surrounding areas.

Its 'library of things' will allow people to borrow a wide range of stuff - from tools and appliances to toys and sports equipment - at a fraction of the cost of buying them outright, while also saving on storage and helping the planet.

And, to make the library reflect the needs of the area, Share Skipton is inviting everyone in Skipton and surrounding villages to take part in its community survey.

The survey will gather insights about the types of things that people might like to borrow, or be willing to donate, and how the library might run.

Angela Monaghan, chair of Share Skipton, urged people to take part and say what kind of things the library needed to stock.

"By filling in our online survey, people will help shape our library of things and make sure we truly cater to what the people of Skipton want. It only takes three to four minutes to complete, and we’d love people of all ages and backgrounds to take part.”

Over the past few weeks, Share Skipton has been engaging with the wider Skipton community through drop-ins at Skipton Library and via a stall at Skipton Pride. It says the response from residents has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic and believes it highlights the potential for Share Skipton to create a long-lasting impact.

For anyone interested in getting more involved, Share Skipton is also seeking someone to join their friendly steering group as treasurer. It says applicants need to be financially qualified and it is a 'fantastic opportunity' to support an exciting, new community initiative.

Share Skipton is also on the lookout for suitable premises to operate the library of things. If anyone has available space or knows of potential locations that could be used, Share Skipton would be keen to know.
