A TERRIFIED woman was dragged along by a car in her pyjamas and flip flops while helping her daughter who was being attacked, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Kesser Ahmad was today starting a prison sentence of two years and eight months for punching his former partner repeatedly in the face fracturing her nose and grabbing her mum’s arm and driving off.

Ahmad, 24, described as address unknown, was sentenced on a video link to HMP Leeds where he was remanded.

He was found guilty after a trial of two offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm committed on July 22 last year. He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Prosecutor James Holding said Ahmad had arranged to meet his estranged partner at night on the street outside her mother’s home in Bradford.

They were sitting in his Renault Clio when they argued and Ahmad lost his temper and attacked her.

Her screams and cries alerted her mother who went out in her nightclothes to help her daughter whose face was covered in blood. When she leant into the car, Ahmad grabbed her arm and drove off.

Mr Holding said he went steadily at first but then increased his speed. She was forced to run alongside the vehicle until she freed herself with ‘a burst of strength’ and fell to the ground.

Ahmad then disappeared off with the younger woman on board. He drove erratically before pulling up on another street where his victim’s screams alerted residents. His ex-partner sustained a broken nose and her mother suffered serious bruising and swelling, including a painful lump on her arm for months.

Ahmad denied the assaults, saying the younger woman broke her own nose on the car dashboard and he drove off in self-defence when her mother refused to let go.

His former partner stated that she was struggling with stress, anxiety and depression.

Ahmad had ruined her looks by breaking her nose. He had made her feel worthless and she could no longer trust anyone.

She felt isolated and was no longer the happy bubbly person she used to be.

Her mother said she saw the car wheels turning beneath her and thought she would be dragged under the vehicle and killed. It had been absolutely terrifying and it had broken her heart to see her daughter’s injuries.

The court heard that Ahmad had previous convictions for driving offences.

His barrister, John Batchelor, handed in references from his new partner and his employer. He wanted to move on with his life and apologised for the upset and anxiety he had caused.

Recorder Catherine Silverton said Ahmad had punched his former partner repeatedly in the face breaking her nose.

Her mother came out in her pyjamas and flip flops and saw daughter’s face covered in blood. Ahmad took hold of her arm and drove off.

“You knew she was being dragged along by that car and you put your foot on the accelerator,” Recorder Silverton said.

The victim saw the wheels of the car moving beneath her and thought she would be dragged beneath it and killed. Somehow, she found the strength to break free.

Ahmad was jailed for a total of 32 months and banned from driving for 26 months.

A five-year restraining order bans him from having any contact with the women or going to any address where they live.
