A BRADFORD district travel agent boss says business is booming during the summer holiday peak period in what continues to be a record-breaking spell for his firm.

With the majority of schools breaking up this week, the big getaway is expected to start for the summer.

Tony Mann, director of Idle Travel based at Enterprise Five in Bradford Road, says demand is high for holidays during the upcoming summer weeks.

Destinations including Tenerife, Alicante, Benidorm and Turkey are proving most popular for holidays booked via Idle Travel, with many opting for all-inclusive options.

Mr Mann added destinations across the USA, including Orlando, Las Vegas and New York, are proving popular among bookings for later this year and into 2024.

He said: “This year continues to be record-breaking for us. Last year was record breaking for us.

“June was our second-best month of this year after January. This year is looking like it will be our best ever year.

“Business is booming for us, touch wood.

“July looks like coming second for the busiest month for bookings this year, but it could be first. If it continues, it will be an exceptional July.

“For families, places with waterparks are popular.

“Last year was our best yet. Next year we celebrate 40 years of trading.”

Meanwhile, Mr Mann added his customers have not been affected by the scorching temperatures reported across southern Europe over the past few days.

Residents and tourists at Mediterranean destinations have been told to stay indoors as a second heatwave in as many weeks hits the region - and as Greece, Spain and Switzerland battle wildfires.

He says none of his customers have cancelled the trips they have booked to countries including Spain, Greece and Italy.

The UN weather agency said temperatures in Europe could even break the 48.8C record set in Sicily two years ago as concerns grow that the heat will provoke a spike in deaths.

Temperatures are expected to top 40C (104F) on the continent later this week as Mr Mann says nobody who has booked a holiday with his firm has encountered the extreme heat as yet.

He added: “The areas in the news, like the Canaries, we have not sent anybody there. In Athens, we don’t have anybody out there at the moment.

“The heatwave has not impacted where our customers are going, but we would ask people to read the terms and conditions.”
