THE first HWD Fest, celebrating the community of Holme Wood, will be held this Saturday.

The new, annual family festival is being held at Knowles Park, and has been organised by The Holme Wood Collective.

It will feature music, dance and poetry and run from 11am to 3pm.

The event is also supported by Bradford Council, Clarion Housing, Incommunities and Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership.

The main stage will feature performances from Kemmi Gill, Dance United, Haze Da Martian, All Star Youth, Hassan and Yorkshire Martyrs Cheer and more; storytelling on the Bradford Stories Bus with authors Sophy Henn and Dan Freedman; sports competitions from Bradford Bulls, Holme Wood Town and a penalty shoot-out against Billy Bantam by Bradford City Football Club; live painting with United Art Project and the HE.ARTists; theatre from Spin Arts and Keira Martin and their show ‘The Other’ performed with a horse and cart; and craft with The Valley Project and their Cardboard City.

The festival will also feature stalls and activities from a range of other local partners including: Realise Training who are bringing the Realise Bus and a whole host of outdoor games; West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and their fire engine; Bradford Health Trust Early Education will be holding music sessions for young children throughout the day; Stronger Communities who ask for ideas about how to improve the Bradford District.

Emerge, the Bradford charity for young people, will be running a coconut shy; and local Councillors Ursula Sutcliffe, Matt Edwards and Celia Hickson will be at the event to hear from local residents.
