A POLICE operation tackling unlicensed carriage of scrap metal took place earlier this week.

The West Yorkshire Police operation - where officers worked with partner agencies including DVSA, DVLA, Taxi Licensing and Leeds City Council's Serious Environmental Crime Team - was carried out in Otley on Monday.

Two drivers were issued tickets for overloading vehicles, with one having a vehicle that was 2.5 tonnes overweight.

One ticket was given out for driving without a seatbelt and a Fixed Penalty Notice for littering was also issued by Leeds City Council.

Also during the operation, 15 Prohibition Notices were issued for various mechanical defects, four drivers were assisted to fix faults at the roadside, and two people were made to purchase a waste carriers licence on the spot.
