A CYCLIST is fighting for his life after a crash with a car door.

Police were called to Caroline Street, near its junction with Exhibition Road, in Saltaire, at 6.49pm on Monday.

A man in his 30s, who was riding a bike, had collided with the door of a white Dacia Duster car and was seriously injured as a result.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

One resident who lives nearby said he went to the shop at 9pm and saw police - around three cars and seven officers.

He said the cordon stretched near the road's junction with Exhibition Road and beyond it and police were still in attendance at 11pm.

Police have launched an appeal for information following the crash.

One resident who lives nearby said he went to the shop at 9pm and saw police in the area - around three cars and seven officers, who were wandering round.
He said one side of the cordon stretched across Caroline Street, close to its junction with Exhibition Road, and the other end was beyond it, heading away from Saltaire towards Baker Street.
Police were still in attendance at 11pm when he went to bed.
Michael Overend has run XS Hair & Beauty, in Victoria Road since moving the business to Saltaire from Bradford city centre in 2010, almost 13 years ago.
He said Caroline Street is essentially a one-track road due to there being parking on either side and claims it has become even busier going both ways due to traffic calming measures on other routes in the area.
The business owner spoke of a number of accidents involving bikes where Caroline Street meets Victoria Road – just one street on from Exhibition Road.
He said: “That corner is shocking.
“There must have been four or five people that have had accidents on that corner on bikes, let alone pedestrians.”
Mr Overend added: “I’ve seen people knocked off on the corner of the street on bikes.
“It’s a one-vehicle basis now.
“Traffic calming never really works, does it?
“It just makes people drive somewhere else.”

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, has information that could help the investigation, or has dashcam footage.
