A GROUP of seven women from Bradford are preparing to take part in an annual bike ride in memory of the late MP, Jo Cox.

The women, who are all members of the Queensbury Queens of the Mountain Cycling Club, are riding in The Jo Cox Way, an annual ride from Cleckheaton to London,

Now in its eighth year, the event aims to remember the former Batley and Spen MP and the causes that were important to her.

Around 80 cyclists in total will set off on July 26 from the Princess Mary Stadium in Cleckheaton, arriving in London four days later on July 30.

Among the riders taking part for the first time is Samantha Hunter, who is 51, from Thackley.

She said: “Two and a half years ago I couldn’t ride a bike. I did bike lessons. I’m not the fittest of people; I’m not a size eight. If I can do it, I’ll be really proud. I’d say to other women; any shape, any size, any ability, just get on it and just do it. You’ll love it.”

The Jo Cox Way was started in 2016 just a few weeks after the MP was murdered. It raises funds for The Jo Cox Foundation.
