PEOPLE are being urged to support a campaign to transform a former water treatment works into an outdoor activity and swimming centre.

Yorkshire Swim Works is an ambitious scheme proposed for the Thornton Moor site, near Denholme.

But the plot is due to be sold at auction on Wednesday, July 12, and campaigners have launched a crowdfunding bid to raise £65,000 to acquire the site.

A spokesperson says: "This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create an incredible community asset.

"Naturally-filtered swimming pools would be at the heart of the project. In addition, the site would feature a sauna, cafe/restaurant, community room, office space for rent or for local sports clubs to use for free, and lodges for overnight stays, which would help ensure the financial sustainability of the site."

Supporters of the scheme include Keighley MP Robbie Moore.

He says: "Yorkshire Swim Works' crowdfunding campaign is a prime opportunity to transform this land into a thriving community hub and unparalleled outdoor swimming destination in West Yorkshire.

"The site would serve as a fantastic asset, attracting tourists and swimmers alike and providing a boost to our local economy.

"I urge everyone to join the crowdfunding campaign."
