Staff working for train operator Northern have revealed their favourite rail routes - but lines through the Bradford district have been overlooked.

For the inside track on the best journeys, the second largest train operator in the UK asked colleagues to share their favourite routes to work on.

There was no place in the 'top five' for the likes of the Calder Valley line, which runs through Bradford Interchange and meanders through the scenic splendour of Calderdale towards Manchester, with points of interest including Hebden Bridge.

Meanwhile, the historic Settle and Carlisle route, which is easily accessible from Keighley and Skipton, would be seen by some observers as a surprise omission from the list.

Instead, the list included the line from Middlesbrough to Whitby, winding its way through the beautiful North York Moors National Park, providing passengers with views of rolling hills, ancient woodlands, and coastal scenery.

Next on the list was the Cumbria Coast. From Barrow to Carlisle, passengers can embark on a journey through the Lake District, enjoying panoramic views of rolling green hills and charming cottages.

The Furness Line is also highlighted, being described as an underrated route meandering through charming countryside, rolling hills, and alongside the stunning coastline of Morecambe Bay.

The route from York to Leeds via Harrogate is also recognised, with the train journey taking passengers through picturesque countryside through the renowned spa town of Harrogate.

The top five is completed by the Hull to Driffield line, described as a hidden gem of the Northern network, showing off the best of the East Yorkshire countryside through the bustling towns of Beverley and Cottingham.
