THE owners of a pub that has been closed for more than three years are working with North Yorkshire Council to tidy the site up.

The Cross Keys on the A59 at East Marton, near Skipton, has been closed since the start of 2020.

Two separate letting agents have been involved in marketing the pub but it remains closed, with no one seemingly willing to take it on, and is now boarded up.

Owned by the Wellington Pub Company, it is being offered on a 'free of tie' lease.

In addition to 'large, open plan trading areas' the pub, which over-looks the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, has four-bedroom owner's accommodation, car parking, a beer garden and 'additional decked area'.

Martons Both Parish Meeting has raised concerns about the state of the once thriving pub and the image it presents because of its prominent position on the A59 between Gisburn and Skipton.

The council contacted North Yorkshire Council's cleaner neighbourhood team which in response has met with the management company on site.

In correspondence with the parish, the team said in addition to a general tidy up, concrete blocks would be placed at the entrance of the car park to prevent 'anti-social behaviour' - believed to be carried out by people driving past.

North Yorkshire Council’s assistant director, highways and transportation, Barrie Mason, said: “Our officers are liaising closely with the owners of the site to ensure any issues are resolved.”
