A long-running dispute about the closing time of a gelato restaurant in Cross Hills, Keighley, appears to be resolved after North Yorkshire Council gave it permission to shut at 9pm.

Craven Gelato on Ashville Terrace, which is in a former hairdressers on a residential street, only had permission to close at 5.30pm but was serving customers until 11pm, breaching planning conditions.

In 2021, the owner of the business, Aamir Mohammed, submitted plans to the former Craven District Council to make the 11pm closing time official but this provoked the anger of Ashville Terrace residents as eight households submitted letters of objection to the authority.

One resident said the additional noise created by customers visiting the gelato business had become a “blight on our lives”.

Another resident, who has lived on the street since 1985, said they can hear car doors slamming late into the night as well as delivery vehicles parking and blocking the road.

The plans were ultimately was refused and a bid to overturn the decision on appeal was again refused by government planning inspectors earlier this year.

However, following a suggestion from North Yorkshire Council’s environmental health team, Mr Mohammed submitted a new application to close the restaurant at 9pm which has satisfied planners.
