A BRADFORD district nursery has turned its fortunes around in a matter of months, going from 'inadequate' to 'good'.

Following the inspection on December 2 last year, inspectors from education watchdog Ofsted gave the Nuffy Bear Day Nursery, at Cottingley Manor, on Cottingley New Road, Cottingley, the lowest rating.

However, the nursey was inspected again on May 11 and was given an overall rating of 'good'.

It was also judged to be good in the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management, all of which were inadequate at the December inspection.

In the report for the May inspection, inspectors were full of praise, saying: "Since the last inspection, staff have worked hard to make improvements to the nursery.

"They ensure children have good quality care and learning opportunities. Staff reflect on their practice and have high expectations for each child.

"They plan a broad curriculum tailored to individual needs. Children develop to their full potential and make good progress in their learning.

"Staff offer many activities, which support children's good health and physical development."

Rob Gibson, general manager of Nuffield Health Cottingley, said: "Our staff at the Nuffy Day Nursery here in Cottingley have worked very hard for this, I am proud of their achievements.

"Their commitment to providing a safe, nurturing and fun environment for the young children we support is evident each and every day, and I’m delighted that their hard work has been recognised by Ofsted."

Parents of children at the nursery also praised the staff for their efforts.

In the report, inspectors said: "Parents are very complimentary. Their comments include 'staff always go above and beyond, they are brilliant, friendly, and caring'.

"Staff are also highly valued by management. Staff wellbeing is given priority and management offer ongoing praise and support to develop practice.

"Management listen to suggestions and act on them. Staff recently received two additional days wellbeing leave.

"The manager and staff have a clear vision for the future and are committed to providing a high-quality service."

Inspectors also praised the nursery for improving its safeguarding provision.

Inspectors added: "The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The manager and staff have recently updated their safeguarding knowledge."

However, in the report inspectors also wanted the nursery to continue making improvements.

They said: "To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should ensure less-experienced or less confident staff are supported to maintain their focus on the care of the children, instead of prioritising routine tasks."
