BRADFORD Literature Festival’s 2023 event kicks off today.

The distinctive festival hub has once again been erected in Centenary Square and will be hosting numerous events over the next 10 days.

It will also be home to a pop-up book store selling works by the various authors and speakers attending the festival.

This weekend will see a number of free family activities, including Alice In Wonderland-themed performances on the festival stage in City Park on Saturday, as well as craft sessions in the nearby Imagination Station.

Sunday will see superhero-themed performances and a hero themed “bootcamp” in City Park.

Children’s authors including Victoria Williamson and Richard O’Neill will be holding workshops in Waterstones throughout the weekend.

And the National Literacy Trust’s Stories Bus will be based in City Park throughout the festival.

Among the events being held this weekend is a talk from London Mayor Sadiq Khan about the climate emergency.

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh will discuss the novel 30 years on at Pictureville at the National Science and Media Museum, before going behind the decks for a Trainspotting-themed DJ set at Bradford’s Brewdog.
