PLANS to ban unhealthy Buy One Get One Free offers have been postponed until 2025.

The move has been welcomed by Shipley MP Philip Davies who has been campaigning for the “utterly bonkers” policy to be scrapped.

Mr Davies raised the issue last week at Prime Minister’s Questions, calling on Rishi Sunak to intervene.

The Prime Minister has now said a review into the implications of ending such offers will continue, and the policy will be revisited in October 2025.

Mr Sunak said: “I firmly believe in people’s right to choose – and at a time when household budgets are under continuing pressure from the global rise in food prices, it is not fair for government to restrict the options available to consumers on their weekly shop.

“It is right that we consider carefully the impact on consumers and businesses, while ensuring we’re striking the balance with our important mission to reduce obesity and help people live healthier lives.”

Mr Davies has campaigned against this policy since it was first suggested in 2020 as part of a wider package to tackle childhood obesity.

He said: “I have always opposed this policy and believe people should be able to buy what they want and make their own choices.”

Mr Davies said he will continue pushing for the policy to be completely scrapped.
