A FIRST-TIME plant grower has shared pictures of his "hilarious" anatomical strawberries.

The strawberry plant with its interestingly-shaped fruits belongs to Rowan Kelly, 22, of Silsden.

The 22-year-old has recently caught a case of green fingers and wanted to see if he could successfully grow something, having moved in with his partner.

Little did Mr Kelly know he would be faced with some rather odd-looking strawberries as the plant progressed.

He said: "Turns out I can (grow something successfully), they just happen to also be incredibly lifelike."

This isn't a case of just one mutated fruit taking on a bizarre look though; every strawberry on the plant has a similar shape.

Mr Kelly bought the plant from a shop and started growing it last weekend.

Mr Kelly said: “I’ve recently started to pick up gardening and having moved into our first flat together, my boyfriend and I decided to try grow something.

"I got a strawberry plant from the local Co-op and put it on our windowsill and watered it every morning.

"As the strawberries started to grow, they resembled a familiar shape more and more each day which we both thought was hilarious.

"My boyfriend joked that only I would be able to do this.

"I’m checking them every day and they are retaining their distinct anatomical look and will probably end up looking the same when ready to eat.

"I’m very surprised but it’s honestly one of the funniest things that’s happened to us recently”.

The ordeal hasn't put the new plant enthusiast off trying his hand at more gardening.

Mr Kelly said: "I’m not yet growing anything else but I’m thinking of trying out tomatoes next, so look forward to some oddly-shaped tomatoes in our window coming this summer."
