A MAN has landed a hefty fine for giving a false name and address to a conductor after being caught travelling without a ticket.

George Brown, 21, of Bradford Road, Keighley, was travelling from Keighley to Steeton & Silsden on October 15, 2022.

He was asked to produce a ticket by a conductor and could not do so, even though he boarded the train from a station with ticket-purchasing facilities.

The court documents state, he was asked for his name and address which he gave as George Tidswell, and a false address.

The record states: “As he stood up to leave the train the Officer could see a debit card hanging out of the defendant's pocket which had the name Brown on it and when checked found he had been reported previously.”

Following the incident two letters were sent to the defendant requesting an explanation, but there has been no response.

At Kirklees Magistrate’s Court, a Collection order was issued and he was fined £550, asked to pay compensation of £2.80, a surcharge to fun victim services of £220 and costs of £150.

In total he was fined 922.80, which must be paid by June 23, 2023.
