A BRADFORD district village post office will relocate next month following a public consultation.

The Post Office has agreed to relocate its site in Gilstead from Gilstead Lane to Ferncliffe Stores, Ferncliffe Road, Bingley. There is a distance of 650 metres between the two branches, but customers have been warned that it is along hilly terrain for their visit to the new branch.

The postmaster at the Gilstead Lane, Gilstead, wishes to leave the network, according to the Post Office.

The current branch at Gilstead Lane, Gilstead, will close on Monday, July 10 at 5.30pm with the new branch opening at Ferncliffe Stores on Tuesday 11 July at 1pm.

During the relocation alternative branches include: Bingley Post Office, Main Street, Bingley, and Eldwick Post Office, Otley Road, Bingley.

Ferncliffe will operate as a local style branch with a Post Office serving point alongside the retail counter of the convenience store.

The opening hours will be Monday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm. This will be an extra 25 hours of service a week including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon. The branch will open earlier and close later every day.

The re-location of the Post Office follows a public consultation which took place in April and last month.

The organisation added that the vacancy was advertised and a team from the Post Office visited the area. The only applicant to take on the service was Ferncliffe Stores.

The new location currently has a step at the entrance, however, works are being carried out to make the step more accessible. The new operator will also look to improve access with a portable ramp with grabrail. There will be a clearly visible sign and bell at the entrance of explaining how to request the ramp.

A similar range of products and services would still be available, but a National Lottery terminal would not be available at the proposed new site, but there is a Lottery machine available for customers at the Post Office in Main Street, Bingley.
