THE opening date of a new Co-op store in the Bradford district has been hit by further delays, the firm has confirmed.
Co-op was originally due to open the store on Bingley Road, Saltaire, this spring.
The store’s opening date was then revised to June this year, but the Co-op has given a further update, saying it has now been put back further to an unconfirmed date later this summer.
The building is now with the developer and works are being finalised before it is handed over to the Co-op, which will lease the completed store.
The new 2,800 sq ft store is nearly 400 sq ft larger than its existing store in the village.
It includes customer car parking and will support 16 local jobs.
The store is moving from its current premises, further up Bingley Road, into the new building.
A Co-op spokesman said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to open a new and improved store to better serve our community, and we look forward to welcoming members and customers old and new into their new Co-op as soon as it is ready to open later this summer – our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, and we are working to develop the range, choice and added services to create a really compelling offer to serve the community, conveniently.”
The purpose-built store will include a free ATM, in-store bakery and coffee dispenser.
Home delivery of Co-op groceries will also be available through Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats.
A soft plastic recycling unit will also be available to enable people to recycle ‘soft plastics’ like crisp packets and bread bags.
The new store is on the site of a former car wash.
