A BRADFORD music venue has been given a boost after receiving a grant to fund new equipment.

The Underground, in Duke Street, has received backing from the Music Venue Trust’s Pipeline Investment Fund, which it plans to use for venue improvements including new sound equipment and more building renovations.

The Underground said: “We have been awarded funding from Music Venue Trust's Pipeline Investment Fund and we are going to use it to make venue improvements such as new sound equipment, and further work on our building renovations.”

Gail Simpkins, The Underground’s manager, added: “The Pipeline Investment Fund will allow much-needed ‘slack in the line’ to ensure basic necessities (that have been fast depleting) can be replaced and restocked.”

It is a further boost to the venue after the opening of The Platform Bar, which is at street level in the same complex. This more intimate site has space for up to 40 people and is being billed as a performance venue for more up-and-coming bands and artists to perform.

A makeover of the site’s main bar, the original downstairs Underground bar which can host up to 350 people, was undertaken earlier this year.
