A man from Bradford has been fined almost £600 after admitting he verbally abused a safety camera van operator.

Hamzah Mahmood, 24, of Queens Road, was driving down Bolton Road on August 16 when he stopped his vehicle and blocked the safety camera van.

He then verbally abused the operators, Bradford Magistrates' Court heard.

Mahmood was arrested and charged with a public order offence causing harassment, alarm or distress and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

He has since been fined a total of £587. 

Paul Jeffrey, head of West Yorkshire Police’s prosecutions and casualty prevention unit  said: “West Yorkshire police enforce speed limits on behalf of the Safety Camera Partnership with the aim of preventing deaths and serious injuries on the road network. 

“Our safety camera enforcement officers are committed to preventing loss of life and serious injury as a result of excessive speed.

"Threats and abuse towards these staff, who are working to keep communities safe, will not be tolerated. These incidents will be investigated and wherever possible offenders will be prosecuted."
