THE Sunday Times Rich List 2023 has been published, revealing some of Bradford's wealthiest business tycoons.

Among the top names are the family of William Morrison, the Bradford-based entrepreneur who made his fortune through supermarket chain Morrisons, and the billionaire Issa brothers with links to the city.

There are 350 places on the Sunday Times Rich List, showcasing the UK's richest businesspeople and how their wealth has changed throughout the year. 

Taking the top spot is Gopi Hinduja and family, who are worth £35bn, up £6.528bn on 2022.  

There are 171 billionaires in the UK recorded this year, down six from 2022, the first fall for 14 years.

Mohsin and Zuber Issa

The Issa brothers are worth more than £5bn 

The owners of the EG Group, who have links to Bradford, saw their wealth go up by £302 million in the past year - that's £827,400 a day - according to the Sunday Times Rich List which is published in the national newspaper this weekend.

While Mohsin and Zuber Issa were born in Blackburn, their parents, Vali and Zubeda, moved to the UK in the 1970s to work in the textile industry, moving from Gujarat, India, to Bradford.

They later ran their own petrol station, where the brothers worked as teenagers.

They are the fifth richest people in the North West of England and are ranked in 40th place nationally. 

The brothers founded Euro Garages (later renamed EG Group) in 2001 and still live in the town.

In recent years have expanded their business portfolio by taking over supermarket giant Asda, and fast food chain Leon.

In March, full-year results for the company showed a 1.9 per cent annual rise to £1.18bn. Revenues also rose by just over a quarter to £26.61bn.

The pair are now worth £5.05bn after adding £302m to their personal wealth in 2022.

Coming in 177th place are Andrea Shelley, William Morrison, Eleanor Kernighan and family - worth £933m.

Between 2022 and 2023, their wealth increased by £6m. 

In October 2021, Morrisons ceased trading as a publicly listed company after more than 50 years on the London Stock Exchange.

It came after a £7.1bn takeover by US private equity firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice. 

Jet2

In 250th place is Philip Meeson, the executive chairman of Yeadon-based aviation company Jet2.
