RESIDENTS of a Bradford road have been asked to move their vehicles from the street by police so important works can go ahead.

Bradford Council will begin cleaning the drains in Aireville Avenue, Frizinghall from 9am onwards today.

This is known as "gully" cleaning.

West Yorkshire Police said residents have been informed of the procedure and the need to remove vehicles from the street by a letter.

But the force provided a "polite reminder" for residents on its Bradford West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) Facebook page this morning.

Part of the post said: "Residents have been informed by way of a letter but just a polite reminder please can you remove vehicles to assist our colleagues."

Bradford Council says on its website that it empties gullies on main roads once per year and aims to clean other gullies once every three years.

But gullies in high-risk areas are emptied more frequently and residents can report blocked gullies or drains.

Gullies are the square grates found at the side of a road.

Bradford Council does not empty the main drains on roads - the round grates found in the middle of the carriageway - as these are dealt with Yorkshire Water.

Private drains on private property and gullies on unadopted roads are also not cleaned by the council.
