HUNDREDS of youngsters had a close-up look at a legendary locomotive during a visit to a district railway station.

A group of 275 Scouts and Guides from the Keighley area paid a visit to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

The youngsters were able to access the cab of the famous Flying Scotsman Steam locomotive, while it is at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for the Flying Scotsman Festival, with lots of events to celebrate the centenary.

During the visit, the children were shown the controls that drivers have used over the last 100 years, by two young volunteers Joe Lockyer and Ryan Hills.

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway wants young people to be able to volunteer on the line and experience.

The railway said welcoming the youngsters to the heritage railway on May 15 to experience a steam locomotive has been a fantastic opportunity to showcase what can be done.
