PUPILS at a Bradford special school have helped to mark the King’s coronation by planting a time capsule to show future generations what their life is like in 2023.

Co-op Academy Delius, in Barkerend Road, held a series of events on Wednesday, May 3 ahead of this Saturday’s coronation of King Charles III.

The celebrations included burying two 2023 time capsules which featured coins, coronation memorabilia such as keyrings, school photographs and a copy of the Telegraph & Argus newspaper from Wednesday, May 3. All classes and staff at the school contributed to the time capsules.

Other events the school is holding included creating a huge mosaic of the King’s head, a sensory story of a coronation and planting red, white and blue flowers.

Carla Illingworth, cover supervisor at Coop Academy Delius, said: “To celebrate the coronation is a piece of history for us all.

“The children enjoyed the day we held for the coronation. It was just a fun day for them. They wanted to be a part of it.

“We’ve never done anything like this before.

“When we dig up the time capsules in 20 or 30 years’ time we can see what the days around the coronation were like.”
