A vital foodbank in Bradford has been given a £4,000 cash boost by a healthcare provider.

Social enterprise Locala Health and Wellbeing, which provides sexual health services to people living in Bradford, made the donation to Bradford Central Foodbank.

The foodbank, based at the Jubliee Centre on Jerymn Street, is set to use the money to offer more daily essentials and cupboard staples to those in need.

It comes after volunteers witnessed a 30 per cent increase in the amount of people coming forwards for food parcels.

Food stock is at an all-time low, the foodbank said.

Lucy, a user of the food bank turned volunteer, said: "I came into foodbank when I was pregnant and in temporary accommodation as we'd had to spend money on baby things. I visited more recently and got an electricity grant too.

"Getting the food massively helped and when you are struggling not knowing where your next meal is coming from, it's drastic, but everyone understands and doesn’t judge you.

"Volunteering here has changed my views on everything."

Karen Jackson, Locala chief executive, urged people to support foodbanks through volunteering or donating goods.

She said: "With the rates ever increasing, food banks need support now more than ever.”
