A FISH and chip shop restaurant chain is set to open a new site in the Bradford district following a £500,000 fit-out.

Mother Hubbard’s is opening a new site in Northgate, Baildon, from 11am on Friday, April 28.

The new Baildon branch will be open for orders, including a small seating area, with a 100-seater restaurant available to customers from this June onwards.

The new site will also feature an outdoor decking area for diners to eat their fish and chips.

The company has spent £500,000 on fitting out the new site in Baildon. It also features a large touch-screen ordering service for customers.

The Baildon site will open up with a special cut-price deal on its food for its opening few days. Between April 28 and 30, the Baildon site will offer 50 per cent off its food as a thank you to the community.

A Mother Hubbard’s spokesman said: “We’re just waiting to open it next week.

“We want to give back to the community. Everyone has had a tough few years with Covid and the prices of everything going up. We wanted to give 50 per cent off to the community.

“It is a good site (in Baildon).”

The company is opening a smaller, Mother Hubbard’s Express site in Wibsey this summer. It also plans to open up its first overseas site, in Dubai, later this year.

Mother Hubbard's is a well-established Bradford chain which opened its first branch on Ingleby Road in 1972.

This branch was opened by then-Coronation Street stars Bernard Youens and Jean Alexander, who played characters Stan and Hilda Ogden, and the site sold fish and chips for just 45p.

The firm decided to give back to customers in September 2020 when customers queued at its flagship store on Legrams Lane, when they were charged the original 1972 price for fish and chips.

Mother Hubbard’s has branches across Bradford including Legrams Lane, Ingleby Road and Leeds Road, with the latter picking up a five-star food hygiene rating earlier this month.
