A BRADFORD district sandwich shop is celebrating after achieving a five-star food hygiene rating from its first inspection.

The Idle Sandwich Company, in Bradford Road, was awarded the highest hygiene rating after an inspection carried out at the shop on Tuesday, April 4.

This was the shop’s first hygiene inspection during its owners, Sharon and Mark Webster’s, six-and-a-half years in charge.

The Idle Sandwich Company posted about the five-star rating on its Facebook page, writing: “Morning everyone, just wanted to share our fantastic news.

“We've finally had our first ever Food Safety and Hygiene Inspection since owning The Idle Sandwich Company for the past six-and-a-half years and over the moon to have been awarded a five.

“Thank you to our great new staff, who coped brilliantly, especially as the inspection took place at a very busy time and so very stressful, hence, the inspector being faced with a crazy lady bursting into tears when informed of our score.

“Most importantly, a big thank you to all our customers who continue to support us.”

Sharon said: “I’m really overjoyed. That’s why I cried when he (the hygiene inspector) told me. It feels amazing.

“It’s our livelihood. We work hard every day. We are not a dear shop. We are passionate about giving that customer service.

“We bought this shop in August 2016 when it had already been open for two years.

“We have a lot of regulars who come in. We rely on word of mouth.

“We’re in a good position on the way down to Idle village. We’re really busy. We do deliveries ourselves and get a lot of workmen coming in.

“It feels amazing to get a five-star as we’re an older shop.

The Idle Sandwich Company sells a range of items including breakfasts, sandwiches, paninis, chips and cheeseburgers.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

New food hygiene ratings for eateries across the Bradford district are published by the Food Standards Agency.

Almost 4,000 premises across Bradford are rated by the Food Standards Agency, based on the findings of local authority inspectors, who work all year round.

The hygiene standards found at the time of inspection are then rated on a scale.

Five is top of the scale, meaning the hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.

The Idle Sandwich Company is open from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 2pm and on Saturdays between 7.30am and 1pm. Call 01274 612038 for more information
