A BRADFORD hair salon will celebrate 25 years in business with a special event.

Husband and wife David and Catherine Wilson opened Millennium Hair Studio on Windsor Road in Shipley in May 1998 and 25 years on they are planning a charity event to celebrate the occasion.

"We are celebrating our 25th birthday in May and doing a charity event to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

"We opened on May 11, 1998. Twenty-five years is a long, long time in business.

"We set up on our then, but now we have five staff members. We managed to keep them employed over Covid, and that was a time was tough for everybody.

But David said business at the salon has gone very well over the years.

"It has taken a lot of hard work but we're very proud of what we've done," he said.

David said the salon has always been located on Windsor Road in Shipley.

Their original premises was in a much smaller building, which the salon was in for about 20 years.

However, about five years ago the salon moved into its current premises, which used to be the former Victorian fire station building in Shipley.

The building was not actually a fire station when David and Catherine bought it, as it previously housed a barber shop and a chemist.

At the time, Catherine told the T&A the building had a complete makeover - "We pulled to bits and started again," she said, describing the newly renovated building's stylish interior.

"We have everything under one roof," she added. "There’s nothing here in our community like it."

David, Catherine, their employees, their customers and members of the public can all look forward to a special 25th birthday event on Saturday, May 13, which will be a fundraiser for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

David said: "A number of local businesses have contributed raffle prizes which are worth in total in excess of a thousand pounds."

Millennium Hair Studio has published a flyer encouraging the public to join them for the charity event, organised by salon manager Gemma Sargent, which will take place from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, May 13.

Their flyer reads: "Come and join us for an afternoon of demos, discounts, drinks and nibbles and a raffle with a top prize of a pair of Cloud Nine irons worth £199 to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research."
