YORKSHIRE'S second Heritage Summit is being held at the UNESCO World Heritage location of Saltaire on 18th May.

Organised by The Yorkshire Society, the day-long summit in Victoria Hall, will involve two key events, a Yorkshire Heritage Exhibition as well as the Yorkshire Heritage Symposium, with guest speakers, question and answer sessions, the awarding of the Harry Gration History prize and free guided walks around the World Heritage Site with Yorkshire Blue Badge Guides.

The theme of this year’s event is The role of Yorkshire’s public and voluntary bodies in shaping and delivering the region’s heritage in the mid-21st century. Keynote speakers include Saltaire World Heritage Site Officer Sheena Campbell, David Butterworth, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority CEO, Jeff Davitt, chairman of Yorkshire Rewilding Network, and Kevin Trickett chairman of Yorkshire & Humber Region Civic Trusts.

Heritage organisations based in Yorkshire are able to book exhibition stands at the event and members of heritage organisations and members of the public who just have an interest in history can also purchase tickets for the symposium.

The Yorkshire Society's lead on heritage, author and environmental campaigner Colin Speakman explains “Heritage is as much about our future as about our past. Yorkshire has such a fascinating heritage with its history, culture, nature, landscape and people, we want to bring heritage organisations, volunteers and members of the public together to network, celebrate and promote their work with one united voice”.

Heritage organisations who would like to attend should email heritage@theyorkshiresociety.org. Tickets for the symposium cost £10 and are available from theyorkshiresociety.org/event/2023-yorkshire-heritage-summit/
